Alfonso Giordano is adjunct professor of «Political Geography» at the Department of Political Science, University of Rome “LUISS Guido Carli”, and associate professor of “Economic and Political Geography” at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Rome “Niccolò Cusano”.

He is also didactic manager of the «Anna Lindh Chair of Euro-Mediterranean Studies», promoted at the University of Salerno by the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, Alexandria of Egypt.

He is head of the international relations at the Italian Geographical Society, Rome, and member of the Association of the Italian Geographers and of the Population-Environment Research Network.

He is managing director of the European Centre for International Affairs, Brussels.

He is member of the editorial boards of the international academic journals: Journal of Global Policy and Governance; Transition Studies Review; Outre-Terre – Revue Européenne de Géopolitique.

He is lecturer in the Masters: «Geopolitics and Global Security», La Sapienza University of Rome; «Administration and Government of the Territory», School of Government, LUISS Guido Carli, Rome; «Sustainable Development, Geopolitics of Resources and Arctic Studies», Italian Society for International Organization, Rome; «Management and Regulation for Sustainable Energy», LUISS Guido Carli, Rome.

Between 2004 and 2016 he has been adjunct professor, within the Department of Political Science, University of Rome “LUISS Guido Carli”, of: «Political Geography» (2015/16 jointly with Professor Jared Diamond), «Sustainable Development», «Sustainable Development and Migration Flows», «Economic Geography», «International Economic Policy» (2009/10 jointly with Prof. Jean-Paul Fitoussi), «Population Movements and International Relations», «Political and Economic Geography».

He has taught “Geography” (teaching courses: “World Economic Systems”, “Sustainability”, “International Migrations”) at the Department of Science and Technology of Education, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.

He has been member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Euro-Mediterranean Studies and of Europæ – Quarterly of European Affairs.

He has been scientific coordinator for the Italian Geographical Society, in cooperation with other national and international institutions, of several research projects, as for example: «Suez Canal Expansion: Potential Benefits for the Italian System» and «China’s Agglomeration Poles».

He has been research coordinator of the Report «Innovation and Sustainability in Food Policy, Education, and Culture: The Role for Sub-National Governments», Eupolis Lombardia – Institute for Research, Statistics and Training, Milan.

He has been appointed as external reviewer for «Social Sciences and the Humanities» at the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Lisbon.

He has worked as instructor and advisor in International and European Geo-Economics at ABI – Italian Banking Association, Rome.

He has been as research affiliate to the research group «Neo-regionalism, Globalisation and International Order», at the Institut d’Études Européennes, Université Libre de Bruxelles.

He has been appointed as counselor for scientific research, university and international relations at the Culture, Science and Education Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Rome.

He has been named national expert by the Permanent Mission of Italy to the European Union in the research group «Options for the Greater Middle East», established at the European Union Institute for Security Studies, Paris.

He served as scientific expert within the Staff of the Counsellor for External Relations at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the European Union, and at the Council of European Union, Brussels.

He has been appointed as delegate by the Italian section at the Council of European Municipalities and Regions, Brussels, specifically in the “North South Cooperation” and “Euro-Mediterranean Partnership” commitees.

He took part to the research group “Planning of the Sustainable Development of the Mediterranean Basin among Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation, Process of Regionalization and Government of Globalization”, within the framework of a Cooperation Agreement signed between the University of Salerno and AFSOUTH-Allied Forces Southern Europe/NATO-North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, Naples.
